Trials of Many Kinds

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” ~ James 1:2-3 NIV

How many times do we have to undergo trials before we learn the lesson? We are experiencing trials almost everyday. When circumstances turn against you, when events shift unexpectedly, when loneliness is lurking in the shadow waiting for you to give up – consider it pure joy. Admit it, you are not as strong as you are today if not of unforgettable trials you experienced in the past.

35.jpgThe bible is very precise in highlighting the fruit of enduring trials. Perseverance. I’ve been reminded of two unfortunate frogs trapped in a can half-filled with liquid butter. One frog accepted his fate and drowned himself to death in a pool of butter. The other frog just refuses to die! (not this time! says the frog) and swim around. He paddle the whole night. At the break of dawn, he found himself sitting on a solid butter.

Take a lesson from the frog. Don’t simply give up and say ‘goodbye world.’ Do what the frog did, he bent his knee and swam like crazy. You just have to bend your knee sometimes and whisper a silent (sincere) prayer to God. He is always faithful. Believe me, His heart is being torn into pieces whenever He see His children suffering. Being a parent, I can’t ask for nothing but the best for my son. Just thinking about his agony whenever he’s sick breaks my heart. God’s heartbroken whenever we cry out for mercy. But we have to endure the pain. There’s no easy way out. Yet when we do, we will finish so strong.

Trials of many kinds are very complex issues. However, the pattern is the same. The best illustration is the bootcamp. There, aspiring soldiers undergo rigid training. May the toughest survive. When they do, they are so strong that they’re in the frontline on the battlefield.

Enjoy your training, and God bless you.
